General Dentistry

General Dentistry Overview

We believe General and Family dentistry begins with an understanding of how to avoid needing much dental treatment. We care about you and your family’s dental and overall health.
There are 3 principles to having the least amount of dentistry done in your lifetime:

  • Take good care of your mouth
  • Have a good plan for oral health
  • Have dentistry completed to enable you to maintain your own health

Dental decay and gum disease are chronic degenerative diseases that will progress if left unchecked. While dental diseases cannot be “cured”, they can be controlled. Our approach to General and Family Dentistry starts with understanding the benefits of dental health and the causes of dental disease.

The benefits of dental health are: dental health is more predictable; less costly; requires less treatment; minimizes pain and discomfort; and gives you more control over your dental future.

Dental plaque is the primary cause of gum disease and tooth decay. Bleeding gums indicates a presence of infection due to plaque. Our  Dental Fitness Program  is at the heart of preventive care visits for Family and General Dentistry by measuring the amount of tooth surfaces without plaque and the percentages of gums that don’t bleed. The Dental Fitness Program is a computer based program that enables each and every person to know the exact cause of dental disease and monitors each person’s health.

An unstable jaw joint(TMJ) and bite is also a cause of dental disease. Our teeth, jaw joints and chewing muscles need to work together in harmony when chewing food. Loose teeth, cracked teeth, worn teeth, sore jaw joints, pain in the face and headaches can all be signs that there is a problem in how are teeth are working against each other during chewing.
